Google has now begun informing Malaysia users who use their services, including Google Ads, Google Workspace, and others, regarding the increase in the SST charge rate to 8% starting from March 1, 2024.
Previously, the government announced that the service tax would increase to 8%, except for food and beverage services, telecommunications, parking, and logistics services, which would maintain a rate of 6%.
Be prepared for other online services to raise their SST as well
More online services might also raise their SST charges. This includes streaming and gaming platforms like Netflix, Disney Hotstar, and Viu. They may announce changes soon. Streaming services started charging SST in January 2020, which led to a small increase in monthly fees. We could see a similar thing happen with the new SST rate hike.
